What will we talk about in therapy?
We will talk about whatever you want to. The therapy session is guided by you. It can sometimes take a while for people to build up to talking about what is troubling them. And that is OK, it’s normal. Building a trusting relationship can be the initial, and very important, step in your therapy.
How long will therapy take?
There is no simple answer to this. Some people find a short course of therapy (6-12 weeks) is enough to resolve whatever is troubling them. Other people choose and benefit from long term therapy. This is something we can check out together. You are free to end therapy when you choose.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
The joy of therapy is that it gives YOU time for YOU. Time where you can explore what is going on for you in a calm, kind, confidential and nonjudgmental space. You have the freedom to express yourself without worrying about the feelings of friends and family. And importantly, the space to explore your feelings, thoughts and needs.
I don’t feel I have a major problem, can I still benefit from therapy?
People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons, including feeling a little bit lost and unsure of themselves, or a bit flat in mood. If it is important enough to you, that you need support – then therapy is likely to help. Sometimes people just need some space to figure out what they want and where they are headed in life.
What are your fees?
I charge £50 for a 50 minute session.
Payment is at the start of each session, and can be by cash or cheque. You can also pay before the session by bank transfer.
What if I can’t make it to a session. What is your cancellation policy?
There is a standard cancellation policy. Cancellations within 48 hours notice will not be charged. Cancellation’s with less than 48 hours notice will be charged in full at the start of your next session.
Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?
Yes. Everything we talk about is confidential. There are a few exceptions:
- If you disclose you will cause serious harm to yourself or others
- If I/we believe a child or protected adult is at risk of harm or abuse
- If the courts instruct me to give information
- If you share information about a proposed act of terrorism or other illegal act
- I am required by my professional body to have clinical supervision, and therefore I may discuss some of the things from your sessions. However, identifying details will be removed.
This can be discussed in more detail during your first session. And under most circumstances I will discuss with you first anything that I feel needs to or has to be shared.
What happens if I am late for a session?
Sometimes unforeseen circumstances happen. It happens to us all. I will always need to close the session at the allotted time, as there may be other clients booked in after your session.
Do sessions have to be on the same day/time each week?
It helps most people if this is the case. However, we can arrange sessions to fit with you and your schedule.
Will I need to come every week?
To gain the most benefit from therapy it is recommended to have weekly sessions. Certainly to start with, as this helps to build the relationship. Towards the end of our time together, we can agree to reduce sessions to fortnightly as part of a planned closure.
If finances are affecting your ability to have weekly sessions, we can look at you having fortnightly sessions instead.
